Great segment on stay-at-home-dads on NBC’s The Today Show this week, featuring non-other than Brian Reid of RebelDad.com. I think the guy with him is the guy I made fun of a couple shows ago for spending three years researching SAHDs to discover that stay-at-home-dads are less likely to adhere to stereotypical gender roles. Fascinating research, doctor.
I’d love to know where NBC found the park chocked full of dads all actively watching their kids and talking sports (so much for less likely to adhere to stereotypical gender roles). The cynic in me has to assume they stocked that pond before they went fishing.
Congratulations to Brian Reid, Dr. Aaron Rochlen (call me for your next paper, doc) and all the stay-at-home dads in the segment.
If you’re a stay-at-home-dad, check out At Home Dad Convention. I may head up there this year and see what’s what. Let me know if you’re planning to attend.
Stocked the park with dads?! I’m shocked you would suggest that a segment on the Today Show was anything but a purely documentarian (is that a word?) assessment of the situation.
Maybe they went on a Saturday? I’ve noticed that in my neighborhood playgrounds, Saturday tends to be dad’s day at the park. I guess all the SAHMs say, “TAKE THE KIDS TO THE PARK so I can have some TIME TO MYSELF before my HEAD EXPLODES.” Not that I ever feel that way… Anyway, if that’s what they did, it’s totally cheating.
