I have been going to these special workshops in order to get a “theatrical” agent, the kind of Hollywood playa who can get you auditons for TV shows and movies. \u00a0So, all that is really required of me is to find a scene I can do in a showcase, work on the scene, do the scene in some sort of excellent and fabulous and unforgettable way, and then wait for the phone to start ringing, nonstop. \u00a0Of course, that would be simple for most other actors in my position. \u00a0But, when it is left to me to find the material, when I can choose any scene from any play or TV show or movie in the entire English language, or any play, TV show or movie that has been translated into<\/em> the English language, I am stumped.<\/p>\n

I consider scenes from Manhattan, Annie Hall, Extract, Smokin’ Aces, Sideways, Same Time Next Year, The Owl and the Pussycat, Glengarry Glenn Ross, Sexual Perversity in Chicago<\/em>…<\/p>\n

I almost did a scene that Bruce Lee’s son recommended to Cousin Ronny back in ’88, but I wasn’t sure if I should do a scene that starts off with “F—ing Ruthie, f—ing Ruthie,\u00a0f—ing Ruthie,\u00a0f—ing Ruthie,\u00a0f—ing Ruthie,\u00a0f—ing Ruthie!”<\/p>\n

I landed on\u2026The Duck Variations<\/em>. \u00a0The what?<\/em> \u00a0Yes, exactly…<\/p>\n

Most of the time, in my effort to do something perfectly well, I do nothing at all.<\/p>\n
